Mission:
The mission of the Testing and Accountability Office is to correctly implement and administer all assessments embedded within the State Testing Program. The data gathered will be used to accurately reflect Thomas Academy School in state and federal reporting. With the adoption of the Common Core and Essential Standards in the 2012-2013 academic year, Thomas Academy began administering the following summative assessments:
- EOG (End-of-Grade) assessments in Reading and Mathematics to all students in grades 6-8,
- EOG (End-of-Grade) Science assessments to all students in grade 8,
- EOC (End-of-Course) assessments in the following courses:
- Biology
- English II
- NC Math I
- NC Math III
ESSA and ESL:
ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) was signed into law, and replaced the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) legislation.
ESSA now refers to LEP students (Limited English Proficiency) as English Learners, or ELs. Assessments are given twice per year, once at enrollment, and again in February/March to determine English proficiency for students whose primary home language is not English.
